Artek 69 is one of Artek's most popular chair models. Thanks to its wide and sturdy backrest, the 69 chair is stable and elegantly streamlined. The curved back of the chair designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935 guarantees a pleasant sitting experience. The chair was originally made for the Viipuri's library, which Alvar Aalto designed after winning an architecture competition.
The 69 chair is suitable for the interior of any room thanks to its lively look. The 69 chairs suitable for both working and lounging are available in several beautiful colors, from which it is easy to find the one you like.
The most colorful shades come from the Paimio sanatorium designed by Alvar Aalto (1929-1933).
Architect and designer Alvar Aalto started experimenting with bending wood in the late 1920s. He developed a pioneering process in collaboration with furniture manufacturer Otto Korhonen, which resulted in the L-leg. The innovation meant the interruption of long-standing traditions in furniture production. Aalto patented the technology in 1933. Durable and solid furniture could now be made from warm organic wood material.
