The Alessi Twergi ES18 grinder is an essential kitchen accessory for every home cook's collection. In the ES18 grinder, designer Ettore Sottsassi's characteristic use of overlapping colors repeats itself. Made of beech, the Twergi ES18 spice grinder is made in Italy, near Alessi's headquarters. The partly handmade spice grinder beautifully shows the grain of the wood and possible knots, which makes each piece unique and different from the others.
The Alessi Twergi product family was designed in 1989 out of a desire to revive the old tradition of wood turning, which is typical of the area where Alessi is located. The name "twergi" or "elf" comes from the dialect spoken in the nearby valleys.
