Artek Lukki is a chair designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara, which is like the Domus chair's sister with a steel tube frame. The seat, backrest and armrests of the Lukki chair are made of compressed birch plywood. The chair is light, durable and stackable. Thanks to the short armrests, the chair can be pulled close to the table. The unique chair is suitable for both work and dining tables.
At the end of the 1940s, Ilmari Tapiovaara participated in a furniture design competition in which furniture was sought for a student dormitory at Helsinki University of Technology. This was followed by a long period during which Tapiovaara experimented with combining steel pipe with wood and textiles. Ilmari Tapiovaara ended up submitting the design of the Lukki chair to the competition. The uniquely beautiful chair won, and it served as the basis for the popular Lukki series.
