The Vitra Tripod desk clock is part of a large family of clocks created by George Nelson. The brass Tripod clock gets its name from its three-legged stand that supports the massive clock face. Playing with proportions, the Tripod table clock is a wonderful timekeeper for both your desk and bedside table. The clock is equipped with a high-quality and reliable quartz movement.
In 1947, American designer George Nelson was commissioned to create a collection of clocks. When he received the commission, Nelson carefully analyzed people's relationship with clocks and how they read them. He found that people were satisfied with the direction the hands were pointing, and that there was no real need for numbers on the dial. Nelson also noticed that people mostly wore wristwatches and that wall clocks had become more of a decorative element.
These ideas and thoughts served as the basis for Nelson's collection of 14 clocks, which included completely new types of wall and table clocks. Introduced to the market in 1949, the clocks were all different from each other, but they all had one thing in common: the lack of numbers.
