Vitra's Star Clock wall clock from 1955 is a stylish and eye-catching design icon that brings personality to any space. Its carefully designed details and high-quality mechanism make the clock both a functional timekeeper and a striking interior design element.
In 1947, American designer George Nelson was commissioned to create a collection of watches. While studying the way people wear watches, Nelson discovered that telling time is based on interpreting the relative positions of the hands, making numbers unnecessary. Since most people wore wristwatches, he believed that watches were more of a decorative element.
These ideas led to the first clock collection launched in 1949, consisting of 14 completely different wall and table clocks without numbers. The clocks featured a diversity of shapes, colors and materials. Nelson Associates designed over a hundred different clocks over the next 35 years. After Nelson's death in 1986, his archive was transferred to the Vitra Design Museum, which began reproducing these clocks in 1999 and has since expanded the collection. Today, Vitra offers a wide range of high-quality quartz clocks for different tastes and styles.
