The Carl Hansen & Søn CH25 is one of the first four chairs that Hans J. Wegner created exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn at the beginning of the collaboration that began in 1949. The CH25 lounge chair, which was imported in 1950, initially caused surprise due to the seat and backrest made of paper string. Paper string had not been used in furniture before, but reeds had taken its place. However, Wegner was confident and very enthusiastic about the appearance, stretchability and durability of paper string - as were many generations after him. Considered revolutionary, the CH25 lounge chair combines the designer's characteristic clarity and simplicity with interesting details, which has kept the lounge chair in strong popularity until these days.
In the CH25 lounge chair, just making the seat and backrest takes a skilled knitter about 10 hours and almost 400 meters of paper string. The weaving-like technology is unique, and thanks to it, the end result created by the demanding process is extraordinarily beautiful and makes the CH25 chair look fascinating from all viewing angles.
