The Artek 606 side table was originally designed for the lobby of the Paimio sanatorium as a light stool that could be used as an aid in putting on shoes. For this reason, a notch was formed on the front of the furniture.
Artek 606 Side table can be placed near a sofa or an armchair thanks to the asymmetric shape of the base. Aino Aalto designed the side table in 1932. At the same time, Aalto was working at the Paimio Hospital together with her husband. The original purpose of the 606 side table was a stool to change footwear. An E60 or 60 stool fits conveniently under the Artek 606 side table.
