In 1947, George Nelson, a designer from the United States, was tasked with creating a collection of different watches. The Spindle clock is one of the clocks in this collection, which were designed in 14 different ways. Later, Nelson continued to design clocks and in total designed more than 150 different wall and table clocks. While studying the use of clocks by people, Nelson realized that the importance of the numbers on the clock is very small and that as wristwatches became more common, the traditional wall clock had to be decorative and beautiful as well.
The original clock collection was published in 1949 and Vitra took it back into production in 1999. The country of origin of the walnut tree is Poland.
